Adrian Sutil and Nico Hulkenberg were handed post-race penalties that cost them one place apiece in the Singapore Grand Prix results.
The stewards ruled that Sutil went off the road at turn seven on the opening lap and gained an advantage in the manner he rejoined.
As a punishment for the incident, 20 seconds were added to his elapsed race time, dropping him from eighth place to 10th behind Hulkenberg and Felipe Massa.
However, Force India lodged a protest claiming that Hulkenberg had also gained an advantage in a similar first-lap excursion, and after examining video evidence and telemetry the stewards upheld the protest and issued the Williams driver with a 20s penalty.
The net effect was to promote Massa to eighth place and relegate Sutil and Hulkenberg to ninth and 10th respectively.
The Force India and Williams drivers had spent the whole race embroiled in a multi-car battle for the final points-scoring positions.
Sutil was unable to hold back the flying Renault of Robert Kubica so lost seventh late on, but still finished eighth on the road, just ahead of Hulkenberg and Massa.
The German admitted he had done his utmost to defend his position in the closing stages.
“I said before it is very important to score every single point we can so we can keep ahead of Williams in the constructors' championship,” said Sutil, who had come through from a disappointing 15th on the grid.
“That's why I tried so hard to keep Hulkenberg behind – any points we get are very important.”
Speaking before the penalty was imposed, Force India boss Vijay Mallya said he felt Sutil had driven superbly, especially considering the team had struggled in qualifying.
“Adrian drove a great race, keeping a whole stream of cars behind him on very used tyres, and deserved his eighth position,” said Mallya.
After the stewards had finished their deliberations Mallya said: “Naturally I'm very disappointed to lose eighth position, but we minimised the loss when Hulkenberg was awarded the same penalty.
“Onwards and upwards to Suzuka now where we hope to add even more points to our total.”
Force India now leads Williams by 12 points in the battle for sixth place in the constructors’ standings.
Sutil 被罰因被指在首圈彎位佔非法優勢..要加罰20秒
Force India 其後上訴..另外指出 Hulkenberg 都有使用..
結果賽會罰埋Hulkenberg..加罰20秒..
故此Massa 升到第八,Hulkenberg 9th,Sutil 10th
換言之Massa 拿多3分,Hulkenberg 少拿一分,Sutil 少拿兩分..
