The San Siro pitch shared by AC Milan and Inter Milan is to be relaid again before Sunday's AC Milan-Cesena clash.
The pitch was due to be played on four times in just over a week and that has been deemed too much for a surface that was already being criticised by players last week.
But the pitch will then be relaid for the third time this season ahead of Milan's clash with Cesena on Sunday night.
"It's the third time this season and it won't be the last," said administrative counsellor for the city of Milan Alfonso Cefaliello.
"Each one of these operations costs between £á120 000 and 200 000 and often it's not easy to find the right materials because in this period bad weather and rain are affecting many European farms."
Inter's administrative delegator Ernesto Paolillo said a change in weather is what is needed.
"Unfortunately the pitch is under stress at this time," he said. "We need to wait, the important thing is a change in weather because there's too much humidity."
