白艾嘉落實會騎 Casino Drive
ELMONT — Soon-to-be Hall of Fame jockey Edgar Prado still doesn’t have a mount for the June 7 Belmont Stakes. But he will, he is sure of that.
Before the first race at Belmont Thursday, Prado said there is a chance he could be on Casino Drive, the Japanense invader who is the number one threat to Big Brown’s Triple Crown run.
”There is a chance,” Prado said. ”Probably … but it’s not 100 percent. Their connections have gotten in touch with my agent (Bob Frieze). We’re going to know something in a few more days.”
Earlier in the week, top Japanese rider Yutaka Take was thought to be the rider for Casino Drive, who was ridden by Kent Desomreaux when he won the Peter Pan at Belmont on May 10 (obviously, Desormeaux isn’t getting off off Big Brown).
”It’s not confirmed that he is coming and it’s not confirmed that I am riding,” Prado said. ”But I know I will be riding somebody.”
Prado said Frieze has also talked to trainer Barclay Tagg about the mount on Tale of Ekati. Tale of Ekati, who finished fourth in the Kentucky Derby, was ridden by Eibar Coa that day.
Prado has already derailed two Triple Crown bids. He rode to Sarava to the Belmont winner’s circle in 2002, ending War Emblem’s and, in 2004, he stopped Smarty Jones’ when he rode Birdstone.
A decision on Casino Drive’s jockey is expected on Monday
