The NBA will play its first game in Taiwan this fall.

The league said Friday the Denver Nuggets will face the Indiana Pacers on Oct. 8 in an exhibition game at Taipei Arena.

Taipei will be the seventh Asian city to host an NBA game. The others are Beijing, Guangzhou, Macao, Shanghai, Tokyo and Yokohama.

The NBA will hold community events while in Taipei. The league opened its office in the city in 1997.

The NBA has released the list of fifteen players that will be attending Thursday's NBA Draft in New York City.

Stephen Curry (Davidson), Austin Daye (Gonzaga), DeMar DeRozan (USC), Tyreke Evans (Memphis), Jonny Flynn (Syracuse), Blake Griffin (Oklahoma), Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina), James Harden (Arizona State), Gerald Henderson (Duke), Jordan Hill (Arizona), Jrue Holiday (UCLA), Brandon Jennings (Lottomatica Virtus Roma, Italy), Ricky Rubio (DKV Joventut Badalona, Spain), Hasheem Thabeet (UConn), and Terrence Williams (Louisville) will attend.

The Warriors and Hawks have agreed in principle to a trade that will send Jamal Crawford to Atlanta in exchange for Speedy Claxton and Acie Law.

The deal will not be officially completed until July 1st.

Sources say that the trade does not rule out the possibility of Golden State drafting a point guard in Thursday's draft.

The Warriors expect to receive insurance compensation on 80% of Claxton's contract since he is not expected to play.

Cavs nearing a Shaq attack

Phoenix Suns' Shaquille O'Neal is on the brink of a move to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

League sources have revealed that the Shaq-to-Cleveland trade talks are nearing conclusion, and Cavalier officials need only to find a suitable package for Phoenix.

Phoenix, however, are not making it easy for Cleveland to land the towering center.

Their request for cash and future draft picks, besides taking Cavaliers' Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic, have Cleveland still negotiating.

The possible pair-up of Shaq and LeBron James would definitely create a much needed frontline for the Cavs.

With a disappointing Eastern Conference finals loss to Orlando Magic, Cleveland general manager Danny Ferry is under pressure to give James some much needed support.

The Golden State Warriors have acquired guards Acie Law and Speedy Claxton from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for guard Jamal Crawford, the Warriors announced on Thursday.

“We feel we have gained tremendous flexibility with the addition of Jamal,” said Atlanta GM Rick Sund. “He gives us balance in the backcourt, having produced at both point guard and shooting guard positions. Not only is Jamal a talented scorer, but he can also deliver quality production down the stretch of games.”

Don Nelson had threatened to not play Crawford in 09-10 in an attempt to convince the guard not to exercise his early termination option, but instead the Warriors found a way to unload him.

Golden State is expected to receive insurance compensation on Claxton's contract.

The Orlando Magic have acquired eight-time NBA All-Star guard Vince Carter and forward Ryan Anderson from the New Jersey Nets in exchange for guard Rafer Alston, forward-center Tony Battie and guard Courtney Lee, General Manager Otis Smith announced this evening. “Vince (Carter) gives us a veteran, go-to scoring presence, especially at the end of games,” Smith said. “Our goal remains the same – to win a championship. Any time you can add an All-Star to help you reach your goals, you have to do it. Vince has been a bonafide scorer in this league for 11 seasons and we are excited to add both him and Ryan (Anderson) to our team. We thank Rafer, Tony and Courtney for their efforts and wish them success in the future.”

“The trade we made today provides our franchise with numerous options in the long-term development of our team,” said Nets boss Rod Thorn. “We believe that in Courtney Lee, we have acquired a young, dynamic player who will be a very good player in this league for a number of years. Rafer Alston has proven to be a quality player in this league for a number of years, and Tony Battie will provide a strong veteran presence off the bench."

The Portland Trail Blazers dipped into their collection of picks in the NBA draft, acquiring No. 22 from the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday in exchange for No. 24 and two second-rounders.

The Trail Blazers still have the 33rd, 38th and 55 picks in Thursday's draft.

Dallas, which didn't have a second-rounder this year, got the fourth of Portland's four second-rounders -- No. 56 overall, which is the fifth-to-last choice. The Mavericks also will get the worse of Portland's two second-rounders in 2010, its own or Chicago's.

Mavs owner Mark Cuban explained the move in a post to his Twitter feed: "You never know when 2nd rd picks can come in handy."

Dallas was willing to move down because it figures one of the players it is eyeing will still be available just two spots later.

"After 10 to 12, it's such an eye-of-the-beholder deal," team president Donnie Nelson said recently. "There are going to be guys that someone likes at 25 and someone else likes him at 13."
