Pasquier and Demuro in war of words over Foy tactics
by Desmond Stoneham and Lee Mottershead
A WAR of words broke out on Monday between Stephane Pasquier and Mirco Demuro, as the two jockeys accused each other of injudicious riding in Sunday's Prix Foy in which Pasquier's mount Manduro suffered a career-ending leg injury.
The Demuro-ridden Distant Way and Manduro were seen to come close more than once, and at one point appeared to collide. Demuro was subsequently called before the stewards but not punished.
Demuro on Monday absolved himself of any blame, and instead pointed the finger at Pasquier, saying: "He tried to push me behind the leader all the time. He did a very bad race."
In contrast, Pasquier said: "We were annoyed on several occasions by the Italian horse.
"I don't think Demuro knew where he wanted to go. He kept on coming out from behind the pacemaker, while I was just trying to settle Manduro to see whether he would stay the distance."
