Trainer Anthony Cummings wants one more shot at a Group One race with Casino Prince before the stallion is retired to stud.
Cummings is hoping to convince big spending owner Nathan Tinkler to extend Casino Prince's career to one more start in the $1 million AAMI Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm next month before he is retired.
Tinkler purchased
Casino Prince earlier this year as a foundation sire for his new Hunter Valley stud Patinack Farm.
He was rewarded when Casino Prince won the Group One Chipping Norton Stakes at Randwick in March and he has since added G1 placings in the George Ryder Stakes,
Doncaster Handicap and All-Aged Stakes to his record.
It was only through Cummings' persistence that Tinkler agreed to start Casino Prince in last Saturday's All Aged Stakes, just a week after he was certainty beaten in the Doncaster won by Triple Honour.
While Tinkler is anxious to give Casino Prince time to let down at Patinack Farm ahead of his first stud season this spring, Cummings believes keeping th son of Flying Spur in work until the Stradbroke on June 7 could pay off handsomely.
“It's a month to the Stradbroke and he would go into it a fresh horse,” Cummings said after the four-year-old's third behind Racing To Win and Murtajill in the All-Aged Stakes.
“It would be the ideal race for him to finish off with a Group One win.”
Cummings was proud of Casino prince's game third in the All-Aged Stakes after his four previous starts over distances from 1500m up to 2000m.
“He probably didn't have the sprint of the first pair having to come back to 1400 metres but it would be different in the Stradbroke as he would be a lot fresher,” Cummings said.
"It would be a shame not to give him another chance," .
Casino Prince carried 54.5kg in the Doncaster and Cummings says he would not be overly concerned about the handicapper's treatment of the four-year-old in the Stradbroke.
If Tinkler agrees with the Cummings plan Casino Prince will lead a big team the trainer has set for the Queensland carnival.
Horses he has listed to go north include
AJC Oaks placegetter Galileo's Daughter, Carbine Club Stakes winner Road To Rock, Turffontein, Prime Nova, Targus, Vardon Flyer, Little Sai Wan and Good Samaritan.
