Marasco 秋季會重返墨爾本
Marasco regained his crown as Perth's top galloper when he won the rematch with El Presidente at Belmont on Saturday.
Marasco's reunion with champion Perth jockey Paul Harvey proved successful when he outclassed his rivals in the $125,000 Belmont Sprint (1400m).
Harvey said Marasco was “switched on” before the race and he responded to his strong riding.
“I bossed him about a lot today and he responded well,” said Harvey, who regained the mount from his premiership rival William Pike.
“It was a good effort under his big weight.”
Harvey was at his best when he drove Marasco between into a run between the leaders in the straight after coming from midfield on the home turn.
El Presidente began brilliantly from a wide alley and crossed to sit outside the leader but was most disappointing when he failed to respond to John Claite's urging from the turn.
Marasco had settled midfield on the rails and he drove up behind the leaders at the 300m as El Presidente quickly lost momentum.
Harvey got the split at the right time and Marasco raced clear to win with something in hand from Oroya Gold and Ripper.
Marasco's trainer Fred Kersley said another spring campaign in Melbourne was now on the agenda.
“His finishing effort was outstanding,” Kersley said.
“He will go to the paddock and have a rest, and then we will look at races in Melbourne.”
Marasco has now won 12 of his 25 starts and more than $1.3 million prizemoney.
Claite had no excuses for El Presidente, who was hailed a big Melbourne spring hope after he beat Marasco into fourth place first-up in the Roma Cup at Belmont.
