AFTER shadowing Frankie Dettori for fiveyears at Godolphin, Kerrin McEvoy was the subject of further speculation that his appointment is imminent as number one jockey to Sheikh Mohammed's Darley operation in Australia.
Rumours circulating in Melbourne in recent days suggest that he has already accepted the position to return home, but at York on Saturday he said he will be discussing the matter on Sunday with John Ferguson, Sheikh Mohammed's racing adviser.
“I've got to speak to John Ferguson in the morning and there will be a decision tomorrow,” he said.
McEvoy has been favourite for the job since the Sheikh paid upwards of £200 million to buy the long-established Woodlands Stud, a deal which included 300 thoroughbreds.
Darley's main trainer in Australia, Peter Snowden, is anxious to have his new stable jockey in place prior to the start of the Melbourne Spring Carnival on October 1.
