Whobegotyou to back up in Stutt

Trainer Mark Kavanagh believes the timing is right to back up Caulfield Guineas hope Whobegotyou in Friday's night's Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley.
Kavanagh nominated the colt after his seventh to Fernandina in Saturday's Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield, mindful he would have to back up either this week or the week of the Guineas.
"We were never going to let him go three weeks (without a run before the Guineas)," Kavanagh said.
"He is a winner at Moonee Valley and he didn't do very much last Saturday, so we are better off backing up this week."
Whobegotyou was beaten only 2-1/2 lengths in the Guineas Prelude but Kavanagh said there was still a lot of improvement in the son of Street Cry.
"He is still a bit fat and yet to get to his peak," Kavanagh said.
Whobegotyou emerged as a Guineas prospect after he posted winter wins at his first two starts at Geelong and Moonee Valley.
He confirmed his class with a close second to Sugar Babe when he resumed in the McNeil Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on August 30 but gave away too big a start in the Guineas Prelude.
Whobegotyou is among 16 horses nominated for the Stutt which also includes Blue Diamond Stakes runner-up All American, Carnero who was sixth in the Guineas Prelude, and New Zealand stakes winner St Culpe.
St Culpe and Captain Fantastic, who has had a luckless spring, are Mike Moroney's two Caulfield Guineas entries.
St Culpe won the Listed Great Northern Foal Stakes (1400m) at Ellerslie in May and at his fourth start pleased Moroney with his first up eighth to Aichi in the Danehill.
"His first-up run was very good, especially his last 200m," Moroney said.
"He really hit the line and stepping to the mile (1600m) Friday night is going to suit him before going on to the Guineas."
Moroney hasn't given up on Caulfield Guineas plans with Captain Fantastic who had a temperature and was forced to miss the Guineas Prelude.
It was the second setback for the colt in a fortnight after he was kicked by stablemate Mission Critical while on a treadmill which caused him to miss the Group Three Danehill Stakes at Flemington on September 6.
Missing the Danehill and the Guineas Prelude has been an unwanted disruption to Captain Fantastic's campaign but Moroney believes he can still deliver the horse to the Guineas with a lead up run in Sunday's Lord Dudley Hcp (1400m) at Flemington.
"Last Saturday he got a slight temperature and we didn't want to risk him, but is still a chance to get there (to the Guineas)," Moroney said.
Captain Fantastic's only start this campaign was an encouraging third to Minnesota Shark in the Nissan Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on August 23.
The son of Fantastic Light's lone win in 10 starts was the Group Two Challenge Stakes (1200m) at Trentham in January while he was runner-up to Il Quello Veloce in the Group One Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) at Awapuni in March.
