Crack sprinter Kaphero is to retire to Swettenham Stud at the end of this racing season.

Swettenham has purchased a major interest in Kaphero, who will stand at the Nagambie property in north east Victoria from 2009.

Swettenham Stud's Adam Sangster said Kaphero will race through this spring and again in the autumn before serving his first book of mares.

"It's great to know that Kaphero is coming back to Swettenham," Sangster said.

"We bred him from one of our most successful families.

"Swettenham Stud has purchased three quarters of Kaphero, while his long time owners will retain the other quarter for his future stud duties."

Sangster said Kaphjero will continue to be traind by leon Corstens and will have his next start in the G2 Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield before he he is sent for a spell.

His targets in the autumn will be the G1 Lightning Stakes and G1 Oakleigh Plate.

Kaphero, by Danzero, has won 10 races and was G1-placed at his latest start in the Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley.
