FRANKIE DETTORI will ride Raven's Pass in the Breeders' Cup Classic after Jimmy Fortune sacrificed the chance to ride John Gosden's stable star at Santa Anita on October 25.

Fortune, who rode Raven's Pass to win the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed's wife Princess Haya of Jordan, was due to return from a ten-day ban on the day of the Classic but told Gosden he could not be at his best for such a big race after such a long break.

As a result, Dettori, number one rider for Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin operation, partnered Raven's Pass in a racecourse gallop at Lingfield on Wednesday morning, which was designed to acquaint the Elusive Quality colt with racing left-handed.                 
He will also partner stablemate Donativum in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf on the same card.

Gosden said: "I discussed it with Jimmy and at this moment in time he is serving a ban for a minor infringement at Nottingham.

"He's pointed out to me very clearly that it is not possible for jockeys to be razor sharp and race-fit for that kind of racing having served a ten-day suspension. We talked it through and Frankie will ride Raven's Pass and Donativum."
