Youthful Jack 壓倒性嬴皇治錦標
The gathering of forces that tasted classic success last season with top filly Heavenly Glow will be chasing more Group One glory this autumn with exciting three-year-old Youthful Jack.
Rosehill trainer Allan Denham confirmed an ambitious program for Taree-owned Youthful Jack after he added today's G2 Royal Sovereign Stakes at Randwick to his impressive record in dominant style.
Just like last season with Heavenly Glow, Denham has taken charge of Youthful Jack's preparation from his part-owner and former trainer Ross Stitt with champion country jockey Robert Thompson locked in as his rider.
Stitt handed Heavenly Glow to Denham last season to avoid unnecessary travel from Taree with the filly and the same reasoning was behind the decision to place Youthful Jack in the hans of the Rosehill trainer in December.
Denham landed a Brisbane double with Youthful Jack including the Vo Rogue Plate in December before setting his sights on the Royal Sovereign Stakes.
Denham said his immediate aim with Youthful Jack is to progress through the $200,000 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on February 28 to the $$500,000 Randwick Guineas (1600m) on March 14 before sorting out the remainder of his autumn program.
“He's nominated for the Doncaster but for now he'll stay in the three-year-old races,” Denham said.
'We'll get these first three out of the way and then we'll have a talk to Ross.
“This is the best quality field he has beaten but he's a good horse and he has just got to be given his chance against the best.
“He blew them way, the going may have helped him a bit but he's just as good a horse on the dry as he is in the wet.”
Youthful Jack has now won 11 of his 15 starts, a tremendous result for horse that cost only $5000, with Robert Thompson aboard in three of his victories from just five rides on the big gelding.
“Ross has always had a good opinion of him, he's always said he cost only $5000 but he doesn't know that,” Thompson said.
“That was his test today, he had been winning well but was up in grade and he took the next step.
“He absolutely jogged, I suppose the going did help him as he is a swimmer but he travelled well and had them well covered a long way from home.
Youthful Jack camped on the leaders in fourth place to the turn and when Thompson called on him he quickly raced past the favourite Desuetude, forging away under no pressure to score by a widening three and a half lengths.
Desuetude battled to be second past the post by short half head from Over The Wicket but stewards later reversed the minor placings after a successful protest from the latter's rider Jim Cassidy after they found he was hampered in the straight.
Golden Rose winner Duporth tracked three and four wide all the way and will be improved by his solid fourth.
