2008年愛彼錶女皇盃冠軍雕塑家正式退役,退役後會作為配種馬
Group 1 winner Archipenko has been retired to stand at Lanwades Stud in Newmarket.
Lanwades Stud owner and general manager Kirsten Rausing said: "We are of course delighted to announce that Archipenko is joining the stallion ranks at Lanwades.
"He is a marvellously well-bred horse with great performance, being a winner every year from two to five years and with lovely looks and temperament."
Rausing, who is also chairman of the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association, added: "I shall certainly be breeding my very best mares to him – including dual Champion Stakes winner and world top-rated three-year-old filly, Alborada, as well as her multiple Group 1-producing dam, Alouette."
Archipenko, a five-year-old son of Kingmambo who hails from the stallion-producing family of Sadler's Wells and Nureyev, began his career under the tutelage of Aidan O'Brien at Ballydoyle.
Racing in the colours of Michael Tabor and Susan Magnier, he won a 7f Leopardstown maiden by six lengths at two and theDerrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes at the same course on his debut at three.
That effort meant he was sent off at odds of 13-2 for the 2007 Derby. He ran no sort of race at Epsom, finishing a distant last behind Authorized, and was also below par on each of his subsequent three starts, all in Group 1 company, that season.
He was reinvigorated, however, after being sold to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and transferred to be trained by South African maestroMike De Kock at the end of his three-year-old season.
De Kock saddled Archipenko to win the Group 1 Audemars Piguet QE II Cup in Hong Kong and a brace of Group 2 races, the Al Fahidi Fort and the Summer Mile, last year. He was also a slightly unlucky, narrowly-beaten second behind Spirit One in the Arlington Million.
Archipenko made a winning five-year-old debut in the Zabeel Mile at the Dubai Carnival this year, after which he finished sixth in both the Dubai DutyFree and the Audemars Piguet QE II Cup.
De Kock had been preparing him for a crack at last month's Coral-Eclipse, but had to rule the horse out of the race due to a swollen fetlock.
The stud fee for Archipenko, along with those for all of Lanwades Stud's other stallions, will be announced in early October.
