A mystery Australian owner has bought English stayers Alandi and Mourayan in a bid to win next year's Melbourne Cup.

Bloodstock agent Hubie de Burgh who brokered the deal, would not reveal the identity of the new owner.

"I can confirm that Alandi and Mourayan have been sold to a highly successful racehorse owner in Australia and they will both be trained in Melbourne with the main aim to try and win the 2010 Melbourne Cup," he told Racing Post.

Both stayers are prepared by trainer John Oxx, who also put the polish on superstar Sea The Stars before his recent retirement.

Alandi won the Irish Field St Leger and Prix du Cadran winner while stablemate Mourayan was an unlucky fifth in the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster.

Both stayers were sold by the Aga Khan to the undisclosed buyer with the primary aim of winning next year's 150th running of the Melbourne Cup.

They are to be prepared by a Melbourne-based trainer.

Alandi, successful five times in eight starts, crowned a magnificent Arc day for Oxx and jockey Mick Kinane at Longchamp earlier this month when the son of Galileo secured a narrow victory over Kasbah Bliss in the Cadran.

Oxx took the loss of his two top gallopers philosophically.

"Obviously we would have liked another go with Alandi next season as he looked a nice Ascot Gold Cup type but it's not to be and he's on a different mission now," he said.

"It's a case of commercial realities which is why he has been sold on but he provided us with two great days in the Irish St Leger and the Cadran and is a very good horse.

"Mourayan didn't quite get the breaks this year, particularly in the St Leger at Doncaster, but he's a good lightly-raced horse and should do well for his new owner."
