AFTER nearly two years in exile from the sport he loves, Chris Munce is close to returning to race riding.

The jockey has been riding trackwork most days for two weeks and is expected to take his first race rides in two or three weeks.

"I want to get another set of barrier trials in, then make a decision about when I start back at the races," Munce said.

Munce rode in 11 barrier trials at Randwick on Friday and was surprised how well he had coped with the workload.
