今天本人嘗試用有限的知識,向各位介紹喉托的用處。喉扥的英文名稱是Cornell Collar,因為它是由美國的Cornell University獸醫學院研究出來的。
首先,我們須明白無論是綁脷、交叉鼻箍或是喉托等配備,通常用於有喘鳴症或稱為Wind-Suck的馬匹,這些馬匹通常背側的軟顎移位,令上呼吸道受到阻塞,以致馬匹陣上表現差劣。通常有這些病徵的馬匹,高速奔跑時會發出聲音。但是,約百分之二十左右沒有這些「叫聲」。
我們替馬匹佩上綁舌帶時,是令至馬匹的脷不能夠retract caudally及over the bit, 而用交叉鼻箍的配備,是防止馬匹在賽事途中張開口。喉托的用處,則只是於有IDDSP的馬匹,而不是用於上呼吸道或其他呼吸系統的問題的。IDDSP的全名是intermittent dorsal displacement of the soft palate。
此配件是利用一種lifting mechanism between the jaws of the horse, 同時又要用上交叉鼻箍,主要的作用,是令到軟顎不會移位,防止larynx form retracting backwards的,研究出這配件的教授是Norm Ducharme。
Dr.Ducharme曾發表報告,稱有些練馬師不懂得怎樣佩上喉托,「他們是putting it backwards」,因此沒有作用。而對一些年長馬匹,使用喉托是因為在某些程度上,這些年長馬匹已經養成了不良的習慣。
很多練馬師認為,喉托對賽馬車馬匹(harness racing) 十分有效,但對平地賽馬馬匹而言成功率不高。所以,這件配備的功能有待證明。在本港而言,還是未有佩上喉托的馬匹勝出。
根據美國大學的研究報告中,喉托需要和交叉鼻箍一同使用。但在本港的賽事,馬匹使用喉托,並沒有同時使用交叉鼻箍。到底哪一種才是正確的用法?相信真的需要看效果,但本人較為相信發明者。
教授曾說,這件配件對於一些兩歲馬匹,在操練時是十分有用,甚至使用了一段時間後,在陣上或年長後便可除去喉托,而不會影響陣上演出。
至於鼻箍方面,是主要使馬匹在賽事時,不要把口張開,而會更為集中。通常,若馬匹第一次佩帶交叉鼻箍,我們要看牠在晨操或試閘佩帶後的表現,因為有些馬匹不習慣,在陣上的表現會更為惡劣。
目前,在香港賽馬中,是有很多不同配件的,除了上述所提及的傳統眼罩、防沙眼罩外，我們還有單邊眼罩、半掩防沙眼罩、耳塞、羊毛面箍和單邊羊毛面箍等。
若我們看到馬匹在陣上首次佩帶這些配件,首先要了解到這些配件的真正用途,以及馬匹為什麼要用這樣的配備呢?因此須細心觀察，在未有配件之前，馬匹有什麼的不良習慣，以及陣上表現的缺點; 在晨課或試閘期間使用後,有什麼改善,有進步或不習慣?各位得自行留意,有些時候,有了配件的轉變,也未必一定是好事。

Let me introduce a bit about the Cornwll University ..
they are nearly the best university studys on animals and they are one of the university that focus on the genetics on animals ..
they are still the leading role on animal genetics ...
their dept of animal science is the best of the world ...
