ABLE FRIEND was in a different league to his rivals when winning as he liked for John Moore and Joao Moreira.
Sent off at long odds-on locally, Moreira was content to bide his time at the rear of the field on Able Friend, then burst clear in the straight for an authoritative success.
Considered the banker of the meeting, the five-year-old has made rapid progress this year and having broken well from a wide draw was anchored at the rear as Gold-Fun and Secret Sham set a good gallop.
At the top of the straight Able Friend briefly appeared in trouble on the inside, but it was only for a stride before the gap came and Moreira motored through.
A delighted Moore said: "He's phenomenal. He's got that turn of foot and can relax and not waste energy, then he explodes when you show him daylight. I've got one of the best milers on the planet and we'll go for the Stewards' Cup and I'll try to convince the owner to go for the Duty Free."
There was four and a half lengths back to Gold-Fun, who was finishing second in the race for the second year running, while Japanese outsider Grand Prix Boss took third.
The European challengers failed to figure, with Trade Storm seventh while Captain Cat was last of the ten runners.
Dubai will be next for the David Simcock-trained Trade Storm, and jockey Jamie Spencer said: "He felt good and ran okay, and while he likes fast ground, that was pretty quick."
Roger Charlton said of Captain Cat: James [Doyle] said he didn't have any excuses. He didn't travel as he can and didn't pick up when I expected him to."
