TAKEOVER TARGET is recovering from an operation to a cracked cannon bone at Newmarket Equine Veterinary Hospital and has been retired from racing.

The veteran Australian sprint star finished a respectable seventh to Fleeting Spirit in Friday's Darley July Cup and was found to have sustained the injury afterwards.

His trainer Joe Janiak and jockey Jay Ford were too distressed to talk after the race but there was more positive news on Saturday morning.

Janiak said: "Thankfully, it's all good news. Takeover Target cracked a cannon bone but he's had five screws inserted and will be box rested at the hospital for a couple of months.

"He seems fine after the operation and he needs to rest. He has been a fantastic horse and we have had some great adventures with him."

Takeover Target won over £2 million in prize-money and among his seven Group 1 successes was the 2006 King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.

雖已進行手術，由於傷勢嚴重，

能否復出亦成疑問。此外，在上月金禧錦標中，

「鑑賞家」擊敗多匹短途良駒，

包括香港最佳短途馬「蓮華生輝」，但今次則以尾二過終點。

至於同在剛周五舉行的二級賽Meydan Superlative錦標，則由曉斯座騎Silver Grecian奪得。
