"...the horse formerly known in New Zealand as America's Cup (NZ) has immediately registered a success in Hong Kong, winning the Class 3 1400m event. America's Cup (NZ) made a winning debut in Hong Kong on Saturday.
Now known as Sir Galahad ¤¸ªZªÌ(NZ) and trained by expatriate New Zealander Paul O'Sullivan, the four-year-old Kaapstad gelding raced near the rear throughout, unfurling a winning run down the outside to score victory by half a length.
Bred by Bloomsbury Stud in New Zealand, America's Cup (NZ) was purchased by Roger James at the 2004 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale for $57,500.
Trained initially by James, America's Cup (NZ) emerged as a promising juvenile with a debut win over 1400m in September of 2005 and a 3rd placing in the Listed Triple Crown Cup at Ellerslie over 2000m in December of that year.
America's Cup (NZ) has now attained NZ$94,819 (approx) in earnings, courtesy of two wins and two placings from his seven starts.
O'Sullivan says the long-range goal for America's Cup (NZ) will be the Hong Kong Derby."
